Lime kilns

The abundance of limestone in the Serra de Tramuntana turned lime production into a source of economic prosperity, as lime was used for construction, medicine, hygiene, thermal insulation and disinfecting cisterns. To obtain it lime kilns were built in places with inclinations, so that they could be loaded easily and in order to prevent an accumulation of rainwater. They were usually built inside a large circular hole covered with a thick dry-stone wall.
