Lime kilns
The abundance of limestone in the Serra de Tramuntana made lime production a prosperous economic activity, since lime was used in construction, medicine, hygiene, thermal insulation and the disinfection of cisterns. To obtain lime, lime kilns were built on sloping sites so that they could be easily loaded and rainwater could not accumulate. They were usually built inside a large circular pit lined with a thick wall of dry stone.
